Vài tuần trước, ý tưởng BlackBerry có thể làm gì đó với Android mới chỉ dừng ở quan hệ hợp tác với Samsung hay dịch vụ nhắn tin BBM. Mọi thứ đã thay đổi khi xuất hiện tin đồn về thiết bị tên mã Venice chạy Android với thiết kế nắp trượt, màn hình tương tự Galaxy S6 Edge. Vài tiếng trước, thông tin về việc bắt tay giữa BlackBerry và Google được tiết lộ, theo đó hai hãng đang làm việc cùng nhau để thiết lập tiêu chuẩn mới trong bảo mật di động doanh nghiệp cho các tổ chức đang sử dụng thiết bị Android.

Theo Digitimes, BlackBerry có thể ra mắt vài mẫu máy Android vào nửa sau năm 2015. Một số nhà sản xuất thiết bị gốc (ODM) của Đài Loan sẽ trở thành đối tác cung ứng của hãng, bao gồm Foxconn, Compal Electronics và Wistron.

Nguồn tin cho biết dù chuyển sang Android, các thiết bị mới đều tích hợp “chức năng phần mềm của hệ điều hành BlackBerry và dịch vụ như BES 12, BBM, BlackBerry Blend”. Điều này giúp những người chưa quen dùng Android có thể xóa bỏ khó khăn khi mới sử dụng nền tảng mới, đồng thời phục vụ như dịch vụ giá trị gia tăng nhằm tạo sự khác biệt so với đối thủ. Về vấn đề chi phí, Digitimes đưa tin các ODM sẽ chịu phần chi phí R&D (nghiên cứu và phát triển), tiếp thị cũng như kênh phân phối.

Nếu thông tin của Digitimes chính xác, nó đặt ra một số câu hỏi, chẳng hạn các ODM có tự sản xuất thiết bị với cấu hình riêng theo ý mình hay không; chiến lược có giúp cải thiện hình ảnh của BlackBerry hay gây ra hiệu ứng tiêu cực. Chỉ có thời gian mới có thể trả lời.

BlackBerry to roll out Android-based smartphones in 2H15, say sources

BlackBerry reportedly plans to roll out multiple models of Android-based smartphones in the second half of 2015, with Taiwan-based handset ODMs, including Foxconn Electronics, Compal Electronics and Wistron serving as production partners, according to sources at Taiwan's handset supply chain.

While running on Android OS, the new BlackBerry smartphones will also integrate some software functions of BlackBerry OS and application services such as BES12, BBM and BlackBerry Blend, said the sources.

To enhance the competitiveness of its hardware products, BlackBerry has expanded the list of its hardware partners to include Compal Electronics and Wistron in addition to the previous partner Foxconn, the sources added.

The roll-out of Android-based BlackBerry phones is unlikely to result in losses at BlackBerry since these Taiwan-based ODMs will be responsible for R&D, marketing and channel distribution expenses, indicated the sources.

Since BlackBerry still enjoys a high brand image in a number of markets, the BlackBerry-ODM partnerships might be able to ramp up overall shipments of BlackBerry phones and therefore boosting the value of BlackBerry's hardware business unit, commented the sources.
