BlackBerry là một Smartphone, bạn định nghĩa Smartphone là gì? Ngoài những tính năng thông thường mà 1 chiếc Smartphone cần có , nó còn dễ dàng thiết lập để bạn sử dụng như 1 Modem để truy cập Internet từ máy tính. Nếu bạn đang sử dụng BlackBerry Desktop Manager từ phiên bản 4.1 đến 5.0, phải làm theo các trình tự sau :

- Install BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 to 5.0 (one time only). (nhấp vào link dể download BDM các phiên bản và tiến hành cài đặt)
- Set up the Internet access point name (APN) (one time only). (setup thông số APN – việc này có thể khác nhau tùy theo nhà mạng)ki
- Configure Dial-up Networking (DUN) (one time only). (thiết lập cấu hình đường truyền network)
- Connect to the Internet using DUN. (kết nối Internet với đường truyền vừa thiết lập)

Note: An Internet Protocol (IP) Modem Connection Manager is included starting with BlackBerry® Desktop Software 5.0.1 that is designed to configure the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem. For more information regarding the IP Modem Connection Manager, see the Additional Information section of this article - Với BDM phiên bản 5.0.1 trở lên đã được nhà sản xuất thiết kế để tự quản lý và cấu hình nên người dùng chỉ cần vài thao tác đơn giản để biến BB thành Modem Internet. ( đọc đến đây có lẽ bạn sẽ nghĩ “thế thì cứ dùng BDM bản cao, việc gì phải chuốc rắc rối”, nhưng bạn nên biết “BDM các phiên bản đòi hỏi 1 cấu hình máy tính nhất định để cài đặt, và các bản BDM mới hơn sẽ nặng hơn, và vẫn có phần đông người quen dùng các bản BDM cũ”. Do đó, bạn lựa chọn phiên bản như thế nào là do bạn, bài viết này là hướng dẫn chung cho phần đông người dùng BB )

Task 1 – Bước 1 :
Install BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 to 5.0 on the computer. - download BDM từ bản 4.1 đến bản 5.0 và tiến hành cài đặt.
Note: When BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed, the drivers that allow the BlackBerry smartphone to communicate through the USB port and virtual communications port are installed. The standard modem that is used by Dial-up Networking (DUN) is also installed. - Khi cài đặt BDM , drivers của BDM chỉ chấp nhận kết nối và nhận BB như một cổng USB và giả lập cổng kết nối được cài đặt. Modem internet tiêu chuẩn sử dụng Dial-up Networking (DUN) cũng cần cài đặt nếu cần thiết.

Task 2 – Bước 2

To set up an Internet access point name (APN) - for GSM devices only - complete the following steps - Cài đặt thiết lập APN trên thiết bị ( ở đây là máy BB – chỉ dành cho máy có hỗ trợ mạng GSM ) theo các bước sau :
On the computer, click Start > Control Panel.
Double-click Phone and Modem Options.
In the Phone and Modem Options window, click the Modems tab.
Select Standard Modem and click Properties.
Click Change Settings.
In the Standard Modem Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
In the Extra initialization commands field, type the following:

+cgdcont=1,"IP","<Device Internet APN>"

Khởi tạo thêm các thông số : at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

Click OK.
In the Phone and Modem Options window, click OK.

Lưu ý : Riêng với các dòng CDMA ở VN, khi bạn mua máy, add số muốn sử dụng truy cập data cần thực hiện Configure , và thiết lập APN cũng đã tồn tại ngay khi Config

Task 3 – Bước 3

Windows 7
Click the Windows icon.
In the search bar, type Set up Connection or Network.
Click Set up a dial-up connection.
Perform the appropriate step from the following list:
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) networks, type *99# in the Dial-Up Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks, type *98# in the Dial-Up Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or 1x/Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) networks, type #777 in the Dial-Up Phone number field, and click Next.
Type the user name and password provided by the wireless service provider. If the wireless service provider has confirmed that this information is not required, leave the fields blank.
In the Connection Name field type BlackBerry.
Click Dialing Rules.
Make sure the profile created in Task 2 has been selected (if applicable), and then click OK.
Select Connect to establish an Internet connection.

Windows Vista
Click Start.
Select Connect To.
Click Set up a connection or network.
Click Set up a dial-up connection.
Perform the appropriate step from the following list:
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) networks, type *99# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks, type *98# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or 1x/Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) networks, type #777 in the Phone number field, and click Next.
Type the user name and password provided by the wireless service provider. If the wireless service provider has confirmed that this information is not required, leave the fields blank.
In the Connection Name field type BlackBerry.
Click Dialing Rules.
Make sure the profile created in Task 2 has been selected (if applicable), and then click OK.
Select Connect to establish an Internet connection.

Windows® XP
Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
Click Create a New Connection. The New Connection Wizard opens.
Click Next.
Select the Connect to the Internet option, and then click Next.
Select Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
Select Connect using a dial-up modem, and then click Next.
In the Select a Device screen, select the Modem - Standard Modem check box, and then click Next.
In the ISP Name field, type a name for the desired connection, and then click Next.
Perform the appropriate step from the following list:
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) networks, type *99# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks, type *98# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or 1x/Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) networks, type #777 in the Phone number field, and click Next.
Indicate which users will have access to the connection, and then click Next.
Type the user name and password provided by the wireless service provider. If the wireless service provider has confirmed that this information is not required, leave the fields blank. Click Next.
Click Finish.
In the Connect window, click Properties.
In the Properties window, verify that Modem - Standard Modem appears beneath the Connect using heading, and then click Configure.
In the Modem Configuration window, clear the Enable hardware flow control check box and make sure that none of the other check boxes are selected.
Click OK.
In the Properties window, click OK

Windows 2000

Click Start > Control Panel.
Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.

Note: The following is applicable for T-Mobile® customers only:

Under the networking tab in the properties window for the dial-up connection, clear the Enable LCP Extensions check box, as well as all check boxes beneath the PPP Settings window.
Double-click Make New Connection. The Network Connection Wizard opens.
Click Next.
Choose Dial-up to private network, and then click Next.
Perform the appropriate step from the following list:
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) networks, type *99# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks, type *98# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
If the BlackBerry smartphone operates on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or 1x/Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) networks, type #777 in the Phone number field, and click Next.
Indicate which users will have access to the connection, and then click Next.
Type a name for the connection, and then click Finish.
In the Connect window, click Properties.

Task 4 - Bước 4

Connect to the Internet using DUN - kết nối Internet với đường truyền vừa thiết lập

Note: During this procedure, do not operate the browser or any third-party applications on the BlackBerry smartphone. An active data session might interfere with the modem connection. Also, make sure that an Ethernet connection is not active at the same time.- Trong quá trình này, trình duyệt không được hoạt động hoặc bất kỳ ứng dụng 3rd nào trên BlackBerry cũng có thể phải ngừng hoạt động. Một phiên dữ liệu hoạt động có thể can thiệp đến kết nối modem. Ngoài ra, hãy chắc chắn kết nối Ethernet không hoạt động cùng một lúc.

To connect to the Internet using DUN, complete the following steps - Để sử dụng DUN thực hiện kết nối Internet , hoàn tất các bước sau đây :
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and verify that the BlackBerry Desktop Manager displays Connected. The BlackBerry smartphone must be identified by BlackBerry Desktop Manager in order for the modem to establish a connection.
Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > <name of the new connection>.
If the wireless service provider requires a username and password to make this connection, enter this information in the fields provided. Otherwise, leave the fields blank.
Click Dial.

Important: The BDM must be running for the tethered modem to function. - BDM phải được khởi động khi BB được dùng làm Modem

Note: If Microsoft Outlook is operating in Cached Exchange mode, a message may appear indicating that BDM cannot contact the messaging server. If this message appears, click Cancel to proceed. - Nếu Microsoft Outlook đang hoạt động ở chế độ Cached Exchange, nếu xuất hiện thư mới, bạn bấm Cancel để xử lý vì lúc này có thể BDM không thể kết nối đến server máy chủ

Mở rộng : cho những người sử dụng BDM 5.0.1 trở lên
The IP Modem option in BDM is designed to permit the BlackBerry smartphone user to use the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem and minimize the configuration steps. - Các tùy chọn Modem IP trong BDM được thiết kế để cho phép người sử dụng dùng BlackBerry như một modem và hạn chế tối đa các bước cấu hình

To configure the BlackBerry Desktop Software 5.0.1 to use the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem, complete the following steps – Cấu hình BDM 5.0.1 để sử dụng BlackBerry như một modem, hoàn tất các bước sau

In the main menu of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click IP Modem.
During the initial BlackBerry smartphone connection, complete the configuration step by clicking the Configure button.
Select the Set-Up Connection option from the Connection profile drop-down list.
Select the appropriate wireless service provider or select Add customer profile for custom settings.
Select OK.
Click Connect.

To configure the BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1 to use the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem, complete the following steps – Cấu hình BDM 6.1 để sử dụng BlackBerry như một modem, hoàn tất các bước sau:
In the main menu of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Mobile Internet.
Click Configure connection ... to setup the tethered modem options
Select the appropriate wireless service provider from the profiles drop down or select Add for custom settings.
Select OK.
Click Connect.

Note: By default, the modem script auto-populates the wireless service provider information within the IP Modem Connection Manager, depending on the BlackBerry smartphone that is connected and the wireless service provider - Theo mặc định, IP Modem Connection Manager sẽ tự động nạp và quản lý các kết nối thiết lập, tùy thuộc vào dòng BlackBerry được kết nối và dịch vụ mạng di động mà bạn đang sử dụng

Important: Contact the wireless service provider to obtain the user name and password that is required to configure DUN. Also, ask the wireless service provider if additional charges are incorporated when connecting to the Internet using the BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem - Liên hệ với nhà cung cấp dịch vụ mạng để có được user name và password để cấu hình DUN. Ngoài ra nếu gặp trục trặc như việc DUN không thể kết nối và dùng BB làm modem, bạn nên lien hệ với nhà cung cấp nhà mạng để được hỗ trợ

vẫn biết rằng, đã có mạng trên PC rồi thì vào bằng BB làm gì ... nhưng minh muốn tìm hiểu ...

Mạng trên PC bạn có thể dùng chương trình như Connectify để biến Laptop của bạn thành 1 WIFI Hotspot cho BlackBerry.
